Carrera Shock ID - Upgrade

I am looking at upgrading my tired\original Boge shocks and purchasing Bilsteins either HD or HD\Sport combo from our host, however I am having trouble first identifying what month my 1985 Carrera was made. Apparently this is an issue as they changed the part's in 85'.

I have the following part number's off the front right Boge strut

911-341-042 03
Boge # 1-0211-32-133 0

The manufacture sticker is not present on the car\door jam. Is there any way I can tell the month of manufacture from the above part #'s? or other method?

What replacement Bilstein part #'s would I need to order?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers
Justin

The VIN will give you a hint whether it was an early or late production car based on the last four numbers. I am not certain how many Carrera's were produced in 85 but there were about 2 to 3 thousand I believe.

edit: the part change occured between March 85 and April 85 production. Another way to tell is to actually remove one of the existing shock inserts and check the part number on it, as well as what type of insert it is. Also note if the screw down gland nut that holds the shock insert to the strut has threads that are inside the strut or outside the strut. (internal or external threads.) You will only see the gland nut when the shock is undone at the top of the shock tower, compressed and pulled out from under the wheel well. You then can remove the top cover of the strut insert and see the gland nut.

My VIN numbers last four digits are 0155, so I'm guessing that would make it an early pre March 85 build?

I pulled the strut on the W\E and looks like the original Boge shocks. The screw down gland nut has threads inside the strut. There were no other numbers stamped inside the strut or on the insert, only numbers on the gland nut which read 1.235000.0023 and CH30 or CH3D.

I plan on replacing with Bilstein HD's allround, so would the corresponding Pelican part numbers be?
P36-0112-M12 (FRONT) & B46-0169-M12 (REAR)

What is the main differences between P36-0112-M12 (FRONT) & P36-0114-M12 (FRONT), is it length?

Cheers

With your VIN I would agree it was an early style. I can't tell you answers to your other questions, although I do believe the rears have not changed in similar fashion as the fronts. What I would do is call Bilstein in California and ask questions. Ask for Jack French. Hopefully you will have definitive answers to your questions before you order from our host. You want to get this one right the first time.
Good luck.

You wouldn't happen to have an email contact for Jack French. Im in Australia so I definately want to get it right before ordering.

I'll see if I can track down a Bilstein rep here in AUS also. Thanks again Tony

I'm really hanging out for some new suspension

Cheers

http://www.bilstein.com/index1.php

Search their web page, you might even be able to find a location in OZ. If you can't find anything there, then email Jack and provide the numbers shown in this thread.
If you have no luck you could even email Pelican sales to try and determine the correct shocks for your struts.
