New muffler, coil, now less power
I just did a few fixes, updates, etc. earlier this week and now I'm noticing a distinct decline in power, especially in the meat of the rpm band, between 3500 and 5500. I'd best describe it as feeling like the car has no "get up and go". I replaced the coil with a brand new MSD high vibration unit (using a blue Permatune CD box) and replaced the stock muffler (which was leaking badly and therefore backfiring) with a brand new Bursch (BX-1104 because I've got Zenith carbs).
What's more likely the problem, the muffler or the coil? I haven't had a chance to switch either back to the original yet to compare. I guess I'm hoping there's a known problem combining MSD coils with Permatune CDs (I still have the original Bosch CD). To top things off, I'm still getting exhaust pops, because the left flange is leaking - I can feel the exhaust gas puffing out of there... ![]() Thanks! Chris

Hi Chris:
Personally, I think its your muffler. I've not had any issues with using MSD coils and the Bosch OEM CD boxes. I never use Permatunes for anything besides paperweights. ![]()
