replacement of chain guides/ramps
I've searched and found good info on this proceedure, I've got the location of the brown ramp (bottom right). But two things I'm hoping to have clarified a little more.
1. front to back orientation. I'm sure I'll be able to tell if there is a front to back oreintation to these once I remove the old ones. this is in combination with the end facing the direction of chain travel. Any insights? 2. I know to secure the guides/rampls with locking pliers or hemostats....but is there any components or hardware to or in the guides themselves that could perhaps come loose during removal? Any thing to be aware of? Thanks, Chris F |

Nothing will fall off the ramps during removal...just watch not to break them so some pieces can find a way inside the engine.

Hi Chris. Push a clean rag into the inside corners of the chain housing where they meet the case. It's like an open chute there to the sump strainer. I just found an end inch of a black ramp and the bottom part of the ramp where it slides over the pin in my sump when I changed my oil. Fresh case of Brad Penn. So, off the muffler must come. What do you mean when you say 'secure the chain ramps with with vice grips'? I'm thinking secure the chain. Keith.

Chris, I have my chain covers off right now, would a pix of them do you any good?

thanks for the reply guys. I got it done yesterday. Very easy job if one pays attention to what's going on. I discovered that the guide on the driver's side, toward the cam gear was on backwards, so I got that corrected. And the brown guide on lower right side looks an awful lot like the rest.
Keith, the idea of putting a rag in there is great. I had read somewhere about folks loosing or having the guides drop down in there and it was suggested to somehow capture the inner ones before completely removing all the hardware. by the time i got to the driver's side, i was just securing the guides against the chains with my finger as I removed the last bolt.
