I need a window - criminal mischief $#%*@!

Hello Pelicans,

My neighbor woke me this morning because our vehicles were part of a sub-division crime spree involving many cars. The stupid criminals busted the backseat window on my driver's side attempting to open the car. They were unsuccessful getting in because there is no conveniently located door lock button next to the "B" pillar. They also tore up the door locks on both doors with a screw driver hoping to unlock but the Porsche is not a Hyundai. My doors were still locked.

No personal possessions were stolen. Though my personal sense of safety and security have been violated. I finished fantasizing about castrating, removing thumbs and fingers, extracting teeth and tongue, crushing kneecamps and foot bones and carterizing any bleeding with my welding equipment. Now I am ready to seek help.

Where can I find a replacement window for a reasonable price? The local glass place says it is a dealer only part.

Man, what a bunch of morons! Sorry to hear of your vandalism--had it happen to me too.

I think you've taken the first step by posting your loss. I've seen several ads for rear quarter windows advertised on Pelican. If you haven't done so, post your need on the For Sale/parts forum and make it clear if you need hinged or fixed window. I'm sure you will get a reply very soon. Currently there are several windows on eBay but I'm not sure if they're fixed or hinged.

Again, sorry to hear of your damage but I think you'll be good to go soon.

Yeah, you should be able to pick up a fixed window really cheap...less than $50 even if you had to call a scrap yard. I would recommend having a glass shop install it though. These can be a little tricky if you've never done windows before.

You should also be able to pick up some lock cylinders or at least a pair of door handles on the for sale forum. Then take them to a good lock smith with your ignition key and they car rekey everything to match again.

Childish behavior like this is exactly why I leave any car left outside unlocked and free of personal information. Of course, with my luck the idiots won't check to see if the car's open . . .

First off bummer about your car. Sheet happens. Oh well.

Good news, I've got a window for you, OEM glass, from my 1982 SC if that will fit your car...........

I take paypal. $85 plus shipping, figure maybe $100 total to go UPS to your doorstep.

PM me with an email address and I can send photos of glass if you want.

Good job Dave!

You don't have any insurance that would cover this? Seems like homeowner's or auro might.

Having just replaced a window that got busted out in my Honda SUV, I didn't want to get insurance involved with my deductable, and the window was $85 in a wrecking yard.

My rear 911 qtr window is tinted with inside film, but that comes easy soaking window in water and using ammonia to clean off the adhesive.

Pic of my glass. I'm splitting up the whole 5 window set (everything is out of car except windshield) So let me know if you want any of the other glass like the other passenger rear qtr window to match the tint if you want to keep it, also have both door glass(s) and rear window with good defrost grid.

the glass is coming from a good home, I miss my car as it got killed in a head on wreck with a little old lady going the wrong way on a one way road.

New Window Installed

Dear Pelicans,

Thank you! My new window arrived yesterday and it was installed today. This community of Porsche enthusiasts is the best. The donor messaged me privately and sent it via FedEx immediately.

Life is good...

Jeffrey
