1968 911S - What special parts should be there?
Found a rough around the edges 1968 911S for sale and will probably look at it this weekend. The engine number and VIN do both code to a 1968 911S. What else should be on this car? Would a '68 have the aluminum rear deck lid?
The car looks straight, but would need a fair amount of restoration. What's a car like this worth?

They didn't import USA S models in '68, so it must be a Euro car. VIN will confirm that.
It should have all the fancy trim, thicker outside trim, elephant hide trim on dash and doors. Front bumper is not stock, nor are the Fuchs. No side markers. And definitely not the red calipers and the Recaros. ![]() '68 S does not have the AL lid. |

MFI started in '69, right?

Ya, the '68S still had Weber 40IDS carbs. I believe the early ones were still the same Type 901/02 engines as the '67S, with aluminum cases, but they changed mid-year to the mag-cased 901/06, IIRC. It should have 5.5 x 15" Fuchs. There were side-marker reflectors on the '68 front and rear fenders, but maybe that was on USA cars only and this would be a Euro car if it is an S?
A real '68S even in rough condition is worth $30K+ in today's market. I have seen basket cases with frozen engines go for that much on eBay. There was a nut-case trying to sell a much worse condition '67S right now for $38K-- I just sold my '67S in nice "driver" condition for $45K, which I thought was a very fair price. A lot of these cars are going to Europe right now because of the weak US dollar. TT

Looks like he took a deposit on it yesterday. Oh well. I'm sure the car will reappear for more money. He was asking $16K.

Hope this makes you feel better: A '56 Speedster in immaculate condition sold for $49,900 the other day local to me, 10 minutes away. I missed it by 3 hours. Shouldn't have tried to find a buyer for my left kidney before calling.

This guy's getting on my nerves. He posted the car again this morning, but with a $20K price tag instead of $16K. When I called him he said that he was just reposting just in case the first deal fell through. WTF?

Bringing back this thread because I think the seller of the S is also the seller of this car and I would like to know if a) it is, and b) how is he to deal with.
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/car/447783042.html Any help would be appreciated.
