The shield portion (( should face the catalytic converter

cat (( sensor

It's a heat shield....position it to protect the sensor from heat...

The O2 sensor screws into the CAT. The plate cannot protect it from heat. I doubt that there is a hotter place on this car. I think the protection plate is to guard the O2 sensor from rocks kicked up in the wheel well and that it should face the tire but I'm not sure.

In my car, which I believe to be original, the shield is snapped onto the O2 sensor and faces outwards towards the tire, not the engine. I think it is there for protection against road debris.

Indeed, debris protector...towards the wheel.

yep,..debris protection (not heat).

Best,

yes..debris protector... exactly what angle it should be is a good question...I usually put it "facing" a bit toward forward... assuming rocks would come from that direction..
don't loose it... they are hella expensive for what you get.. ops.. can I say hella on this forum...? sorry, been listening to my kids too much about 5 years ago.
