First Porsche, Different fender line

I was just looking at this picture in the other list of the "best looking" Porsche.

In looking at the outside fender line of the right rear of the 911, I noticed that the fender sort of bows out and comes down straight to the tail light. Yet, in all the other early 911s and 912s that my mind remembers, that line doesn't come straight down, but sort of slopes at the signal with an angle.

Is this my imagination? Is this because it was the first, with lots of hand work. Or, were the earlier cars like this?

I should add this seems much more 356 like.
