Alloy vs Steel

Looks like steel holds up a little better than anything alloy . My heart sank when I read about this mans misfortune .

Yes , he lives in Southern California and lost everything .

Well , not everything . The things in life that really matter .

His family . All are safe .

Bill is a member over at Ferrarichat.com where I borrowed the images from . I don't think they'll mind . If they do they can ban me . This post is out of respect and sorrow . Thought I'd share with his extended automotive family .........

Bill had some nice rides , before shot ........

For those with a weak stomach look away ......

Quote:
Bill : Unfortunately I lost my house and several cars in the Southern California fire. Here's a picture of my CS next to my GT3 RS. The CS completely melted. Only the muffler is left.

Quote:
Bill : Luckily we were not home when the fires started. My neighbors barely got out alive at 4 AM, having to drive through walls of flames and fire winds up to 60 mph that were filled with burning embers. The tops of most of the trees were on fire. Everyone is safe. Thank god.

I saw our house yesterday for the first time (that picture was taken by a neighbor). 7 of the 9 homes on our street are gone. Here's a picture looking into the garage. The house is gone.

My wife spent several hours looking through the ashes as she decorated the house and knew where everything was better than me. She only found a few ceramic Christmas ornaments in pretty good shape. Everthing else melted or burned up. Splatters of aluminum from the Ferrari were on a stucco wall more than 20 feet away. The aluminum doors and hood of the GT3 RS melted. The steel body is left. We also lost a Viper RT/10. That's pretty much the same as the CS since it's fiberglass. Only the roll bar and some of the engine are left. Metal wire strands can be seen where all the tires were. Amazingly, the carbon rotors of the CS survived. I couldn't find the titanium wheel bolts.

Cars and homes can be replaced .

My problems tonight seem rather unimportant , small .

Thoughts and prayers are with those that lost so much .

True...life is more important. There are zero cars "to die for"...

Amazingly graphic image of how much of the Ferrari was aluminum. Imagine how much lighter an aluminum 911 would be?

Glad he and his family were ok, I presume the cars are insured, and a new F430 Stradale will make him feel better, I'm sure...

Mt friend dodging a Florida hurricane was smart. He chose his motor home as the vehicle to leave the keys. Took his dog, his important records & framily memories, then left his C2S to sit in a few feet of salt water...

Brings this thought to mind:

Collected and stored but uneaten nuts eventually rot (or burn).

Drive your cars; don't save them for the guy you're going to sell them to!

I don't know the man, but I'm happy to hear that he and his wife are safe and healthy. I'm not too sure he didn't drive the cars enough. He just wasn't driving one them that day. It's always sad to see something like that because cars are like art. Some are more easily replaced than others, but never with exactness.

I've never lost a car. I can't imagine. But, given the loss of the whole house, I guess the cars are sort of on a priority scale.

Terrible but must note that steel is an alloyed metal as it is Iron based with carbon as it alloy. The welding instructor in me sorry

That fire was incredibly hot - amazing the amount of destruction.

Glad to hear the family was OK.

At least those are new cars - if insured, they can be replaced. Some older collector cars cannot be replaced. I agree - drive your cars and enjoy them now.
