My eyes hurt...

Since buying my '82 SC a few months ago, I've been pondering the pros and cons of ride height. I naively almost posted a query about it on here, then thought to do a bit of searching first. That was last Wednesday, and I'm still not done...

Looks good from here. You can go a little lower in the front for a raked look. On the other hand, I'm not the one to ask...

Looks great to me. Perfect actually. What are the measures from fender lip to ground ?

Signature says green and at first glance it looks black.....then dark bluish..then..

In summary: The whole car looks fantastic!

It's 25" front and rear exactly at present - I haven't done anything to it since buying it a few months ago.

205/55/16 and 225/50/16s.

In saying my eyes hurt: meant from researching in here. Suspension and ride height must rank as some of the all time most subjective topics...

I agree with your sentiments about possibly bringing the front down a tiny bit.

My concern is the correct weight bias; I understand from my hours of trawling through these parts that the rear should be half an inch lower than the front because of the difference in front and rear wheel arch heights. I'm trying to strike the ideal compromise between visual appeal and handling satisfaction: is it possible?!

As these 'mericans put it - I would say you are 'good to go'. If you do want to change the front ride hight it is, as you know, an easy operation.

Yes - thanks, that was the first adjustment I learned about. The colour can be a bit "different", depending on your monitor: it looks black to me now, but green on the one upstairs. Not the easiest colour to convey via an image. I'm told it's known as Moss Green.

Love the color...I'm partial to green. Looks like your front height is a little high...easily adjusted to give a bit of rake towards the nose.

Enjoy!

Adjusting should not be done by the eye. It is a function of the suspension travel. For instance, if you a-arms are less than level, then your front travel is severely limited and you will be hitting your bump stops more frequently. This does not bode well in high speed cornering.

I know this; I have been warned of this by Steve Weiner (sp?) and Grady Clay has advised me on this for my car just a day or two ago. It 's better to set your car up according to overall tire/wheel height and spring/shock rates.

My understanding is that there will be a slight forward rake when done properly. Here's my 82 RoW, slightly lower than RoW spec.

Take it to a specialist (Tuthills, Jaz etc...) and get the height and corner weightings done properly.

Nice car though, I love Moss green. Here's one owned by my mate Lewis:

Your ride height looks perfect. I'd leave it alone. However, if you change out your shocks as I did (Bilstein HDs), she popped up noticeably. At that point, I lowered her to new specs.

Nice car though, I love Moss green.

My first enquiry with a specialist (and only, so far) suggested ten hours' of work at £80/hr for a geometry set on the car - top heavy or ball park?

I'm struggling to justify it at that cost.

Thanks for uploading another Moss Green SC without the rear spoiler too: looks really clean (puristic aerodynamic mismatches excepted).

It looks good but as Milt pointed out that shouldn't be the goal. A corner balance is the way to go when setting ride height.

Having the front end raked downward may look cool but isn't necessarily correct. Having the heavy end of the car higher is not what you want for handling. If memory serves, which it rarely does, the front wheel cutout is commonly 1/2" inch higher than the rear when the car is balanced. These aren't front engined American cars that look cool and even handle better when the front end is raked downward.

Update on this: Tuthills gave me a guide price of £250 for a geometry set. Seems reasonable to me - will report back once it's been done to let you know my impressions!

Funny how much an old guy like Grady knows, isn't it???
