Fuel filter fitting don't fit filter. F**K!

The new filter's top hole is too small for the fittings to be threaded into. How is this possible or am I missing something?

You either have the wrong new filter or you may need to salvage fittings from the old filter.

The SC fuel filter numbers are a "mess":

This is a regularly discussed issue here. I went through the same exact thing when changing my filter. Has to do with filters being changed mid-stream, but part #'s staying the same. Where did you get the filter? If you purchased from Pelican, you can call and talk to a person about getting the correct filter. I ordered mine on-line and received the "wrong" part.

If you do a search for "fuel filter" something should show up describing the remedy.

The old one ends in 016 and the new that's in my garage right now from Pelican ends 079. And like the old thread said, the new one looks like the arrows are pointed in the opposite direction. But now looking at my purchase order from email the number ends in 021 like it says when ordering. HUH!? Pelican sent the wrong one or is it the same part just wrong number?
There is a filter listed on Pelican that ends in 016 but it's not listed for a 1977. Mines a 79.

This was my exact situation. You gotta call them. When I finally received my new filter, it had a totally different part # on it, vs. the part # in the catalog, but...it looked & fit exactly like the old filter.

Is the one you finally got the 016 filter with the fittings already installed on it?

Not sure about the # at this moment. I'd have to check tomorrow. It has the "fittings" (welded bungs) incorporated into the filter, if that's what you mean. There were no separate fittings, other than the fittings that were part of the original fuel system. The filter I received was identical to the filter I was replacing, with the exception of the part #'s.

Note: I just did a search for my original thread on this matter, but no luck..however, there are many, many more out there

Ryan,

Can you remove the fittings from the filter body and use the ones from your old filter?

I received your email, and forwarded it to Glenn - I believe he's dealt with this issue before. I'm just familiar with the fact that there are often problems, the sales guys here at Pelican know the solutions...

I do have the fittings removed but the one for the top does not fit the filter which I'm starting to learn that it's basically the wrong part, but it was listed for my year. Seems the guys at Pelican are trying to sort it out.
I think I said this after last my last project but "this is why I don't work on cars" the simplest task and . Oh well, I guess I'll hold up on my engine rebuild until I learn some patience.

Hi Guys, yes unfortunately, this is a common problem. As Danny already stated, best thing to do is call us after removing your old filter with the numbers off of it. As Jim said above; "The SC fuel filter numbers are a mess". I've never found any rhyme or reason to what filter and/or fittings can be on a customers car. We are fortunate enough to have resources that can cross reference most any given number to a current Bosch or Mahle number that should be in stock and fit the existing fittings on your car.

SCs are either 71021 (bosch) if it's skinny, or PFC-7 (mahle) if it's fat. early ones had the 71021.
