Quandry

I am in a quandary I am sure many of you have been in before. I come to my fellow Pelicans seeking advice from similarly minded fellows.

I have an 83 SC Cab that is at a point where I need to decide where to go.

I am not a convertible guy, I got this car because it was a good deal, I was Porsche-less and I believed the 3.0 to be bulletproof.

Here is the question. Do I start fixing the car up, or do I sell it and go Porsche-less (for quite some time as my wife is in major saving mode and I would definitely not be able to replace it for years).?

If the car was a coupe, there would be no question. Here in FL a Cab is not a good idea. My car has no AC, the previous owner chucked it. (Actually it has NO climate control of any kind, heat, defrost, etc).

I did rebuild the top end less than 1k miles ago....

I do have an 07 Vette as a daily driver, so I do have some sports car access.

Thanks for your opinion.

t.

For you personally, which do you like to drive more?

If the answer is the 911 by some margin, seems like a vette + 911 cab = 911 coupe + reasonable daily driver + leftover money...

If the answer is the 'vette, then sell the 911. The stickshift vettes are really quite nice to drive, despite the slightly cheesy interior. It's hard to argue with the acceleration.

This may or may not help, but it's not too horrible of a decision to have to make - I bet there are many folks who wish they had your quandry.

burgermeister,

Thanks for the response. I did feel like I was a whiny, spoiled, jerk when I typed this. Your answer is EXACTLY what i want to do, but the wife is so sick of me and cars.

The reason for the Vette was 0% financing, and warranty. I also agree with you about the interior. I think it should say rubbermaid all over it. The only thing worse is the radio (Blose). I think a 77 Chevy Nova had a better sound system).

DaddyGlen,

From what I have been told AC in 911 is the equivalent of having a chainsmoking asthmatic try and warm up an igloo with their breath. Is this true? Could I still add AC now that I am on PMOs and have gotten rid of the CIS system (ie were there shared pulleys or parts?).

I also don't have heat exchangers, or anything climate control related, other than the dash controls. Would this be an exorbitant cost type project?

Thanks again,

t.

The stock A/C isn't so great but there are many aftermarket options. I'm just down the road from you so our weather is the same and my A/C allows me to drive mine year-round. "JeremyD" is in the Tampa area, owns a Cab and his A/C is blowing 39 degrees.

It might cost a couple grand in all new parts but I bet you can find someone who is removing the A/C from thiers and would sell everything to you for much less.

islandmanpa,

I want to so BADLY! It's just not worth the financial hit on the trade in of the Vette. Plus, if I did do that, my wife would divorce me with my decision matrices.

996 vs 996TT vs 993 vs Current vs C63. etc....

Anyone local want to meet, bring our cars, and have a good time? I am guessing if I knew more air cooled locals I would be willing to deal with the Cab.
