1970 911E Alternator or VR?
I have done a lot of research and determined that "something" is not right with either the alternator or VR. When I turn the key the alternator light never goes on, I tested by shorting pin 11 and the light does work. The battery will take a charge from a charger and measures 13.6V when fully charged. When the car is running the only voltage across the battery is the battery voltage.
In looking through the posts and pictures discussion centers on the "blue" wire I think it is the "D+/61" attachment on the alternator? The connections on the VR in my case are all red at the top, not sure if this was original but it looks that way, I can post pictures later if that would help. I have not yet pulled the alternator because I'm not really sure what to do with it, should I pull it out and have it tested? On the VR is there a way to test it? It looks like on later models it may not be quite the same as on a 1970 and I don't want to cause myself more problems.

David,
Take your pick -- worn-out brushes or broken Blue D+/61 wire will cause no warning lamp and a no-charge condition as you describe!
