Reversing U.S. EPA modifications on ROW 911

Hi everybody! My first post

I purchased my first 911 about three weeks ago and have to say it is everything I dreamed of as a boy. It is a 1985 911 Coupe originally purchased in Germany and shipped to U.S. in 1985, it stayed in the same family for 22 years before I got it. I was told that ROW 911's had to have certain modifications to be roadworthy in the States and would like to know what those mods are because I live in Canada and am not sure if the modifications are still necessary. I am mostly concerned with performance decreasing EPA modifications that may have been done as opposed to stuff like bumbers etc...

Thanks!

It has a DME computer so the whole thing is integrated - best to leave it alone in general. One exception:

Get headers & a good chip that is matched to the headers from more performance & toss out all the heavy luxo-crap.

Hmmm, I posted an answer and it disappeared... try again...

The bumpers weren't changed, those are euro. Rear fog light is still there.

Probably added a cat. You can remove it if you don't need it.

I think door impact beams were installed in euro cars by then.

Has 'sugar scoop' headlights. They would probably have installed sealed beam headlights. If it still has them, you can install H4 lights (Bosch, Hella or Cibie) that fit in the sugar scoops. They have removable bulbs and a much improved beam pattern. Get a relay kit and install higher wattage bulbs (55/100 or 80/100). Of course you can always toss everything and spend 250-300 bucks on the 'fancy' H4 lights.

Performance decreasing modifications to meet Federal emissions requirements are typically the installation of a catalytic converter, O2 sensor, and the modification or changeout of the ROW DME with a U.S. version DME that can recognize the O2 sensor, and the appropriate chip software to match. To revert back to the original ROW performance, replace the cat with a europremuffler or cat bypass, and install the original ROW chip, or for performance exceeding that, install a chip optimized to your engine and fuel combination.

You should first though, see if you have a cat and O2 sensor in the car, and post what the numbers are on top of the label on top of your DME box, and if possible, the numbers on top of the current chip inside. Also verify the ROW specification of your car by checking the manufacturing sticker under your front trunk hood. ROW motors have 930/20 printed under engine type, or for lower compression catalyst equipped motors, 930/25 or 930/21.

Looks like the PO added the rear spoiler but did not relocate the decklid's emblem.
