I believe Marchal was an OEM supplier for alternators, just like Paris Rhone, Bosch and perhaps others. While Robert Bosch manufactured quite a bit for the electrical they were not the sole supplier.

There may be parts that are exclusive to Bosch as well.

Sounds like the car has been sitting awhile and you're doing the correct thing by cleaning up the connectors. Don't overlook the 14-pin connector that goes from the engine to the chassis near the left rear of the engine.

I'd not be swapping parts until you get it running and then proceed.....

Jimmy,

Are you having trouble with your ignition system, or just getting the engine started in gereral, or drivability/running quality issues after it starts?

My general response to your posed question #3 has been answered many, many times on this forum ...

Ignition Troubleshooting??????
