What Porsche Magazines do you read / prefer

This BBS has to be the best resource for technical information. After all it's interactive and almost real-time.

But still I look forward to my magazines every month. There are a lot to choose from. Like most of us, I don't have time to read them all. And there are some good ones from the UK that I'll bet a lot of US enthusiasts have never seen. And as an advertiser, I'm curious what everyone thinks of the mags. Which ones should we be looking at? Here is a partial list of what's out there: GT Purely Porsche Total 911 Excellence Panorama 911 & Porsche World 9 Magazine PCA Regional Newsletters Christopherous What else?

I don't read any of them regularly anymore. I read Excellence for quite some time and then switched to mainly reading 911 & Porsche World because it seemed to have more Early car material on a regular basis. This BBS is my mainstay now.

The only two I consistently read regularly are 911 & Porsche World and parts of Excellence.

I really enjoy the writing style of 911 & PW and like the early car coverage and the "Our Cars" feature. I've read all of the others, except for 9 Magazine, and I find that the only one I consistently read cover-to-cover is 911 & PW.

Better written articles with more original cars. I don´t care much for tuned kit cars. Higher quality pictures and paper. Less adds.

I particularly like Total 911 for the above and also because I think it (and the other two of my choices) is written with more personality and character and in a language with more humor and witt. The actual reading experience is more enjoyable. I tend to laugh out loud reading them as opposed to for example Excellence.

I very happily read any of them whenever I get the chance. I do feel that the british magazines have somewhat better content, but that's really no knock against Excellence, which I have enjoyed since 1989, when I was in grade school and bought my first one, the introduction to the 964! Britain has a car culture unrivaled by any other country, and therefore supports some amazing magazines.

You cant beat the combination of new and old car that Excellence offers. #1 in my opinion. I do read all the UK based mags as well. Has anyone seen this new online mag

Interesting the UK mags are not getting many takers. I'll bet that is partly due to the timing of this post, most poll-responders so far are in North America. It's late on a Friday in Europe.

Also, the Euro magazines cost twice as much as ones like Excellence. 9 or 10 bucks is a lot for basically the same material as a $4.50 American magazine.

While I get Panorama by being a PCA member, I thumb through them fairly fast. There are currently two of them still unopened in my stack.

Excellence is usually read pretty thoroughly. My other magazines are airplane magazines. Probably not the best use of your advertising budget. |

I suppose I probably read more of Excellence and more often than most. It could use improving... but I'd better not get into the specifics of what I think are its weak points publically.

Then again, I don't have to -- as there are plenty of forums that have identified some of them, sometimes nicely and sometimes not so nicely.I have to applaud the Brittish P-car magazines. The photos and paper were always good (GT esp.), but they have really upped their game in terms of scope in the recent years -- 911&PW in particular thanks to the arrival of Steve Bennett. I'm sure they, like we here at Ross, work with what they have to work with, which is a budget and staff miniscule compared to a major car magazine's. Of course, having a strong passion for cars worth being passionate about (Porsches) goes a long way. Cheers, and thanks for reading... pete Last edited by stout; 10-19-2007 at 04:14 PM.. |

I get Excellence, Pano, and region mag in the mail so they get read because they are there.

I pick up the UK mags at the book store so it is hit or miss, what is in stock when I swing by. They are not consistantly in stock. The quality of all seem to be good. I find more interesting early car items in Excellence on a consistant basis. It seems more interesting when you have seen the car being written about or know some of the personalities. This is missing in the UK mags even though the cars and photos are equal in quality. The UK mags gain interest as I get to know some of the players here (PP) and on Early 911S Registry. So the internet is making these mags more relevant. Chuck, as to where to direct your ad $, I think most of us read more than one title so the added cost will likley only gain marginal additional exposure with the exception of a overseas geographic market you are not now targeting.
