I'm not an expert, but as long as you roll the engine over correctly I don't see the harm in adjusting one side first.

As long as the crank/cams/valves are in the right place when you adjust each cylinder's valves, it's fine, but you have to turn the crank twice as much.

Yup...And just to make sure...when you are at the right spot...you can feel play at the valve you want to adjust...!

You can adjust any valve in whatever order you like as long as the rocker you are working on is rested against the back side of the cam lobe, in which case you should be able feel play in the rocker like Zef says. Just make sure you only turn the crank clockwise to position the cam shaft in the right place - never backwards.

I just did mine that way last night (for the second time in 5 days ). If you jack up one side, you can remove the valve covers on the high side without draining the oil. Once that side's done, put it back together and repeat the process on the the other side.

Make sure you keep track of which cylinder is at TDC (easier said than done at 12:30 Friday night/Saturday morning).

BTW -- if this is your first attempt at adjusting your valves, I HIGHLY recomment you read this post, especially the contributions of 2.7RACER. I tried it the traditional way on Sunday and adjusted every single valve too loose. My 911 sounded like a Volkswagon deisel when I was done. I redid it last night with the "backside" method and it came out perfectly.

You would normally follow the firing order of 1,6,2,4,3,5 by swithcing from one side to the other after truning crank pulley 60 degrees. If you want to do one side and than the other, you have to spin the crank pulley 120 degrees for cylinder 1,2,3,4,5,6 -- I have never done it that way, so you would be wise to check out this procedure to confirm what I've written.

sig_a....

Unless I'm mistaken or don't understand correctly... I think you mean 120 degrees and 240 degrees in your sentence...not 60 degrees and 120 degrees ( respectively) .....

You can stay on one side of the engine... if you turn the crank at 240 degree intervals instead of the normal 120 degree intervals...in other words.

- right ?

Thanks Wil. You're not mistaken, and I stand corrected. I obviously have vague recall reading your post on the procedure. Always interesting and helpful to hear from you.
