generator light comes on during rev...

Ok so I started driving my 911 daily here in Texas since the weather has been really cool lately.I have a red generator light that comes on always when I get on the gas.During Idle the car seems fine and also during cruising speeds. When I am idling at a stop the red light is very dim and when I get on it the light turns on. I so far know its not my fan belt and I also tested the coil. The coil read fine during a cold and hot test.I also want to test my voltage regulator but don't know how really.Could it be the alternator even if it runs and starts fine?and how do I go about testing it?The battery is new by the way. What things do I need to check for a problem. If anyone knows a good diagnostic list...let me know!--thanks--

Actually, it sounds like the fan belt could be slipping.

so replace the fan belt? what tension needs to be set for the fan belt? When I feel the belt it feels real tight with no play at all and on my 912 it has some slack.

4)fan belt
4) alternator

6)?
.....+ locations and details...

I ordered my service book but Porsche in Houston is very very very slow with parts

Testing things like the voltage regulator, coil and alternator are more complicated than switching out the fanbelt to see if that's the problem. I've been trying to hunt down some kind of coil, VR, CD box problem, so I've done some reading in this area, and some of it gets quite complex! Do a search here for these tests and you'll find lots to read. But really, just try swapping out the fanbelt first and see if that solves the problem - it only takes a few minutes. But make sure you understand the tensioning procedure with the shims first. If it's at the proper tension you should be able to deflect the belt a half-inch, if memory serves.
