HELP! Toledo, OH Porsche Shop

In a bind for a recommendation. I happen to be in town on business with my car and am heading to Mid Ohio on Friday. Just yesterday I started to notice a new sqeak or creak coming from the rear of the car while going over slow bumps or driveway entrances. I can reproduce it by pushing up and down on the rear bumper.

Really would like to have someone put the car up in the air and check it out for me before I put the car on the track this weekend.

Thanks!

If these is a chance you can swing East through Cleveland I can make a strong recommendation for Autobahn Extremist on the West side in Cleveland. Chris Moore is a one man shop but can assist with anything you need.

There is also Autobahn Garage who is in Findlay Ohio and comes very highly recommended. Good guy who is reasonable and knows his stuff and is not that far out of your way. Tab Tanner is the owners name.

Tell them Vance Snyder recommended them and good luck!

Thanks Vance. Cleveland is a little too far out of the way. Findlay (I think) is about 40 minutes away. As of right now I am locked up at the client during the days so I really need to find someone close by that I can sneak out to go see for an hour or so.

Northeast Ohio Porsche shop

Highly recommend Steinels in Twinsburg, this is south of Cleveland closer to Mid Ohio.

Rob, I work in Toledo and live about 35 miles to the southwest. I have a lift at my home shop. You are more than welcome to follow me home from work tonight or Thursday night and we can put it on the lift and take a peak. I have a shop full of equipment and tools that we can make use of if we find something.

I would be more than happy to help out a fellow Pelican in need.

Tab Tanner also has a great shop and he does this stuff for a living, but if you need to do this in the evening tonight or tomorrow, I am more than willing to help you out.

Tim - Thanks so much. If I can't find someone close by in town to look at it during the day I may take you up on your generous offer.

Don't hesitate to call Rob, I typically work till 3:30, but I can stay later if you wanted to follow me home. The only two places in Toledo, that know anything about Porsches, is a small indy called "The Shop" (on Alexis rd) and the Porsche dealership that I believe is still on Central Ave.

"The Shop" may have closed recently and they may not be able to get you in right away if they are still in business. The Porsche dealership, pretty much only works on newer stuff.

I don't have a Toledo phone book handy at the moment so I don't have the numbers for you.

I don't have anything going on at home the next two evenings, so I really don't mind giving you a hand if you want to bring it out.

Here's a number for "The Shop" 419-478-4600, They are still around but good luck getting them do do something on a schedule. I've heard they do great work and they seem to have some awesome cars around there but their snail's pace at getting anything done is the main reason I do my own maintenance. They are located in North Toledo near the corner of Alexis and Telegraph behind a bunch of machine shops and strip clubs with pit bulls penned up. I've lived in or near Toledo my whole life and it took me a half hour to find it with the address.

Try these guys, they did a leak down on my car this spring and they always have some nice stuff they're working on. They're pretty good guys too and if you explain your situation they may accomodate a quick look. They're located about 4 miles East of the airport.

Good news. I just ran out at lunch and stopped in at Precision Autoworks. I had remember seeing them on my way back from the airport in the past. Real nice young guy working. Moved a car out of one of the bays and threw mine up on the lift. Checked everything for unusual play and everything checked out. Sprayed some lubricant on all the rubber bushings and put the car back on the ground. Silent as a mouse.

They did seem to have some interesting stuff in there. Given my timeline here in Toledo, next time I need something while the Porsche is with me I am definitely going back over there.

Thanks again Tim for the generous offer!

No problem Rob, glad it was no big deal. What area of Toledo are you working in? Give me a shout if you want to do lunch this week and BS about P'cars.

I work over on the Maumee side of town. Bounce between offices on Dorr / Reynolds and Sylvania / Airport. Unofrtunately this week is not great given some deadlines but I will likely be here for the next few months so we'll definitely have to grab lunch.

Glad that worked out for you, I believe the owner's name is Matt but I really can't remember the other mechanic's name. As you've seen, it's pretty much a 2 man shop and they do not accept appointments for some reason. If your stuff is there, they will work on it as soon as they finish the previous jobs in the order they showed up. If you guys get together for lunch in Maumee, the best place to meet and talk about cars has to be the Star Diner in Arrowhead Park. Cheap food, lots of it and scenic surroundings.

I have heard good things about the "scenic surroundings" at Star Diner... haven't gotten there yet though!
