Which One Of You Six Is Farting!

Hi All, I Have Another Strange Sound Coming From The Car, Which Is A 2.7 1976 Model. Sound Started Acouple Of Weeks Ago,when From Cold I Would Get A Missing Or Popping From The Exhaust And Then It Would Clear, That Was In Summer, now It,s Getting Colder It,s Getting Worse, It,s Sounds Like A Exhaust Gasket Blowing, It Sounds Like A Crackling Of Farting Sound, But On Idle There,s Nothing And When I Rev Engine There,s Nothing, but If Go Up Road And Put My Foot Down It Does It, It Will Still Do It Even After I,ve Driven 4 Miles To And From Work,i,ll Open Garage Leave Idling And Rev It Nothing, But If I Take It Down The Road It Will Do It. Engine Temp At Gauge Is About 70 Or 80,but In Summer It Would Just Be Up To 160 Or 170 After This Distance. Is It Just A Gasket That As The Engine Gets Warmer It Stops Or Something Else?. Many Thanks For Any Help Rik...

Sounds like its starting to pull a cylinder hold down stud! sorry, but thats how they go. the chuffing at the head/cylinder closes when things heat up.You will have to drop the lower cam covers and check the hold down nuts for torque. You might get lucky--one of mine had two nuts laying off the studs and several others finger tight.--no pulled studs tho' when I stripped it down. Its a '77 2.7
Good luck

Is the noise like "pfffft, pffft, pffft?" If so, like Bob said, you have some pulled or broken head studs. Rebuild time.
