Ready to Upgrade the 83 SC A/C
 

All, I've taken the plunge, shelled out the $$, and am getting ready to do one of those A/C upgrades to my baby. The one I chose is the RetroAir: http://www.mrjaguar.com/porsche/porsche911carreraac.html

If anyone is interested, I will post my story to the list. I know many on the list think it's blasphemy to run an A/C in these cars, but I'm one of those older gentlemen that needs both the adrenniline and the creature comforts... especially my Cigar Lighter - at least that's what it was called in my old '59 356A 1600Super.

So far, my old York is gone, evaporator is out of the smugglers box, and front condensor is out and being flushed. Still need to remove and replace rear condensor, and the dryer.

All the seals (foam-type) inside and outside of my evaporator box are in serious need of replacement. I've seen the "Rennaire evaporator seal kit" mentioned on this list, but I can't find a source for this kit... not even on the Rennaire web site. Does anyone know where I can purchase this seal kit or a similar one? My upgrade is on the way, can't wait for the results!

Will keep the info streaming, I expect to get my kit by this weekend. Before I actually start the job, I'll still need to locate or fabricate the seals for the evaporator box. My seals were like dust/powder when I removed them.

perryb, the "Rennaire evaporator seal kit" is an insulating material that is used to surround the evaporator box. It doesn't include the foam seals that are used to seal the intake ports to the evaporator box. As far as I know your only options are to get the seals from Pelican if they have them, or from Porsche, or use some sort of weatherstripping foam.

I'm interested in what you're doing and hope you can post pics.

Thanks Bob, I expected that to be the case and looks like I'll need to fabricate because those seals are not orderable. Seems the ones inside the box sealing the evaporator are a foam type also... at least they were on mine. Disclaimer; I have no idea if the original evaporator was in the box or, if a reseal had been done in the past.

I will post as many pics as I can.

if the seals that you are looking for are the evap. box lower and bottom, you can get them through Pelican out of Germany for about $28.00. I got them a couple of weeks ago but i couldn't find the one for the adapter that comes thru the pass compartment.

I am in the same boat. Rennaire complete kit from our host is on order & I am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Once I get the engine dropped and the trans off to JW, then the A/C fun will start and, hopefully, be completed in a few weekends. I will attempt to post photos as I go.
