Asymmetrical hub update kit for 915
Is the Asymmetrical hub update kit the way to go on a 915/40 transmission? I'm at the point of ordering parts for my rebuild Im doing and wondering if this is worth the extra money? The transmission will be with a highly modified early MFI engine, short gears, and will be used for both street and track.

I think this is a good question. Anyone ?

The symmetrical first does have a less robust 1/2 operating sleeve (shifting sleeve) - sliding sleeve (three-armed "spider") set up as the "spider" arms have more section in the later assymmetrical first arrangement. |
I would update. I recently rebuilt a 915 with an early symmetrical setup. One arm on the spider hub was broken. Apparently quite common. If you have to spend money, why put the old version back in? I'm not sure if you can even buy a symmetrical 1-2 shift sleeve anymore but I could be wrong.
My tranny shifts great now and it was worth the money for the upgrade. |
Thank You Paul & Jim.
