Sealed Battery Recomendations for Battery Boxes
(re-post from S Registry)
I am looking for a sealed replacement battery/s for my old lead acid (paint eating) batteries which will fit the battery boxes - its a 73. Future owners can worry about correctness, I am more interested in preserving my pristine paint. I have no issue with keeping the car plugged into a battery maintainer, but would like the cranking amps to start near zero if left out for 24 hours. Any recommendations? I am not interested in a 48 lb Optima red top. What I had in it was an Odyssey PC680 drycell from Batterymart.com. 16 Ah, 25 min reserve. The thing is tiny and light: # Length 7 in., # Width 3 1/16 in., # Height 6 5/8 in. and 17 lbs. http://www.batterymart.com/p-odyssey...j-battery.html It died after 3 years, but to be honest I had an electrical drain which killed the battery a dozen or so times. Would 2 of them been a better approach? I like the weight, no leakage, dimensions etc.

Odyssey pc1200LMJT
I just replaced the battery in my project 70T.
I used the Odyssey PC1200LMJT installed on the driver side. I place a 1 and 1/4 inch piece of plywood behind it and even used the stock strap. Battery is sitting on it's side. I disconnect the cable to the passenger side, but left it in case I wanted to use it in the future. Two of these things and you could run all the lights and radio all night and still get out in the morning and start the car. I will never use anything else.

One Odyssey weighs 17. Two weigh 34. The Optima has around 800 CCA rating. Compare with the Odysseys. Also compare cost and the ambient temperatures you mentioned where you're spinning the starter. Under those conditions, I'd sacrifice a few pounds versus being stranded in below freezing temps (0ºF ![]() Two Odysseys have the advantage of splitting their location for better weight distribution (e.g. front corners). However, you're limited to possible locations in a space-limited 911. Odyssey PC1200LMJT $208.95 550 CCA 40 lbs. Odyssey PC680 $119.00 x 2 = $238.00 220 CCA x 2 = 440 15 lbs x 2 = 30 lbs. Optima 34/78 Red Top $149.95 800 CCA 41 lbs. (I have measured mine @ 36 lbs., but will double check) (Costco carries this, same price) Hope this helps. Sherwood |

How about two of these? I used them in my 72 boxes. About 99 each which I thought was reasonable. Westco Miata battery. They didn't fit outright, had to make up the space with some blocks of wood.

+1 And they are an exact fit!
