What do you know about Ultrasonic Cleaners?

I'm looking at ultrasonic cleaners to finish off my E restoration. Solvents are decent, but don't seem to go the last mile without a lot of work, and then there's tremendous clean-up after that to prep for paint, etc. Anyone use these? Brand-model-size you would recommend? Largest part I would ever want to clean are front and rear control arms (already done) but after that, probably down to size of front hubs and nuts/bolts.

I bought the 10 liter one from the usual vendor on eBay, cost me $200 or so. Does a decent job but takes a LONG time to do it and you won't want to work in the same room because there are enough lower harmonics of the vibration frequency caused by the case and the parts you put in it to make you bark like a dog. The "real" ultrasonic cleaners are the ones that Bob at Anchor Atlantic uses (and sells)-- they are a few thousand dollars and clean the living beejaysus out of stuff. This isn't technology that scales down real well. If you are looking for one that will take control arms you're in the mid four figures range.

In Cambridge, you might cruise any places that sell 'discarded' equipment from the electronics industry. That is what these things were originally used for. Size could be an issue tho.

Ahh yes, dumpster diving in the high-tech corridor. Warning: "Biohazard" does not mean the previous owners were fans of the hardcore band from Brooklyn.

"Ahh yes, dumpster diving in the high-tech corridor." - It's great fun! Boeing even has their own "seconds' store. What I've always wanted to do, tho, is to sneak into the dumpsters for Lockheed's Skunk Works. I'm just averse to being shot at. | ||

That's right. The Boeing "Candy Store" will close up soon. Very very sad.
