Hi there,
I have a 1985 930 which is a metallic maroon colour with white carpets and a red leather dashboard. The carpets are showing their age and I was thinking of changing them for new ones but in a dark maroon colour instead of white. I was wondering if anybody could tell me where I might find some information on what paint/carpet colour combinations were shipped on this car? I am also going to refurbish all of the white leather seats and leather trims whilst I am at it (in the same colour). Any suggestions would be gratefully received as I have not made up my mind what to do yet. I have attached some photos so you can get a better idea. Thanks for looking... Steve ![]() ![]()

WOW! If that is a factory combination - it has got to be a rare one!
Not sure I would change the carpet color. Going to Maroon is a very striking difference from the current white. One color needs to dominate, the other color needs to have much less of it or "disappear." Neither white or maroon carpet with the white seats and panels will do that. I'm afraid changing the carpet color will make it come off like a two-tone ford pickup. Just my humble opinion, but with that rare and absolutely striking color combination, I would leave it "as is" except for cosmetic renewal. angela

I must admit it looks better in the photo than it is in reality. The white carpets are dirty and need cleaning/replacing which made me think about swapping them for dark red which would hide the dirt better. I am still thinking about it so thanks for your opinion I appreciate it...

That exterior paint looks like GeorgeK's old 930 with the green interior.
I like what you have.. |

Steve,
The paint is probably garnet red metallic. The leather could be pearl white/burgundy and the carpet could be light gray. It's hard to tell from the photos, as they can be deceptive when viewed on a computer screen. You may also have a special interior, as most cars with full leather didn't get contrasting seat piping and carpet trim. If so, it would be a little harder to figure out. I'd suggest paying a visit to Tony at Southbound Trimmers. In your part of the world, he's the guy to talk to. I've had pretty ggod luck cleaning leather and carpets, even light colored ones. What you have might be salvageable, with some time. I've fixed worse-looking stuff. I'd second the notion of keeping it the way it is now. It's rare to find an unusual color combination and that one works quite well with the exterior color. Nice car. JR |

Steve,
The burgundy or maroon color was part of Porsches standard issue through the 80's starting about 83. Seemed to be popular with Diamond blue Met, Blk, Meteor gray etc.. The lighter color is probably Linen. I have seen several interiors such as yours in maroon, blue, or black as the darker color. Have seen this with the carpet in the darker color and actually like it better than the lighter carpet. I think you'd be happy with the combo of the darker carpet.. it adds balance to the upper trim and dash and God knows it's esier to keep clean!

Nice looking 930 Steve. Do your rear seats have maroon piping also or just the front seats? Thanks.

I'd keep it as is, or maybe going to black carpet to match the triming. Not brown!
Nice looking car... |

I definitely would not change the colour scheme - it looks great. I don't know a Tony at Southbound - the guy to talk to there is Dave Nunn. Dave is a proper Porsche bloke, but maybe be sitting down when you get the prices (I am not saying he is not worth spending money on).
One of my buddies recently cleaned and redyed (original colour) his grey sports leather himself and it came out superbly, easily done too from what he said. I would do that and have the carpets and door cards/pockets etc pro cleaned - should make a real difference to that grubbiness you are feeling. Light-coloured carpet is 100% the way to stay, especially if you have a maroon or black headliner. The contrasting piping is pretty normal for a RHD UK car. I agree the paint looks like Garnet which is an ace colour.
