Dash Cover Options - 1989
I have the windshield out of my 1989 911 Cab, so I'm thinking this might be the right time to address the cracked dash. Searching Pelican it appears the Coverlay ABS covers are not available for this year, although I thought that the dashes were the same from 1984 to 1989?
Next option is the pre-sewn dash cover that says "usually best left to the professionals". How hard are these to instal? Any other options or suggestions? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Coverlay ABS Plastic Dash Covers PEL-PP-900627 Coverlay Dash Cover, Black, 911 (1977-85), w/center A/C vent $98.45 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dashboard Recovering Kit For those up to the task, we offer pre-sewn upholstery kits for your dashboard. As long as you have the dash out, how expensive is it to just remove the dash cap and put an OEM one back in? That would look much better than any cover.

Well, I don't have the dash out, yet, but now would be the time to do it, if I have to.
Did you mean on oem dash pad? 911-552-055-05-7AE-M100\ $1,600! |

While I'm sure your dash will be easier to remove with your windsheild out, you CAN replace the '86-89 (and perhaps through '98?) dash with the windsheild in place! For the '86 model year, the dash changed a lot, providing bigger center air vents and allowing for easier removal.
That's a lot of scratch for an OEM dash! I would look into recovering services. |

I was thinking of pulling it out and taking it to an upholstery shop. There does not seem to be a reasonably priced fix out there.

I checked the dash cover catalog and there are two available. 1969-1985 or 1986-1998. Both available only in black. I can get you the 1986-1998 for around $98 plus shipping (with a/c, without speaker). I have attached a picture of our 1970 911t with dash cover installed for reference. Probably one of the easiest and most rewarding projects you can do on your 911.

Don't do a "dash toupee." They never look right, and they often creak. If you're going to do it, do it right and replace the dash. Jason Cullen on the board sells beautiful recovered dashes, and Robert Budd does very nice work, too. Here's Robert's website:

+1 On Robert Budd's work! I had him do my door panels for my GTR project in Alcantara and the turned out BEYOND PERFECT.
He's doing my upper & lower dash, door sills and rear quarters in black alcantara with orange stitching right now! The 928 Leather Shop is where its at.

I just got some seats from Jason and he also does dash work. Based on my experience with him and the workmanship on my seats, he is the only choice.

Thank you for the compliments.
We can get you a OEM correct dash for your 911, restored in German Leather to better than OEM Spects. You will be happy. I always take care of my Pelican Brothers. Thank you, Jason 408-210-0113 |
