Tip for "restoring" rubber lip spoilers

Stumbled upon this today. One of the few less than perfect aspects of my new 930S was the rubber lip spoiler. One tear and several minor abrasion areas. Pretty typical actually. If you have something similar with yours you know that no matter what kind of rubber treatment you use, the finish on the scuffed areas will always look dull compared to the rest of the spoiler.

Eventually, I'll probably replace it with a new one but in the interim I was looking for someway to fill in the cut of a minor tear. I went to the local home improvement store and picked up some black silicon caulking. Not only did it fill in the cut but in wiping off the excess I found that the sheen was an exact match for the rest of the spoiler and when rubbed lightly into the scuffed areas it provided a uniform finish and filled in any minor pitting. I wound up rubbing in a light coat all across the front of the spoiler and it blended in perfectly virtually restoring it to nearly as new condition.

Time will tell how long it lasts. It should be good for a while and if so it definitely pushes the replacement off a while....

What brand of blk. silicon caulking did you use?
Where did you buyt it? (home depot / lowes etc?)

I wonder if this will work for crack dashes (fill up the cracks?)

kilodawg that looks great. I have used the same on a rear turbo tail rubber in the past to fix a small mark. I advised somebody else recently on repairing the same way. It should last awhile until a new one can be purchased.

Do you have more pictures of your M505 online? I haven't seen that particular car before.

kilowdawg - That looks great!
I must try that as I too have some minor tears and scuffs from the po.
I like your flooring...some day I'll do the same.

I used GE's Silicone II Window and Door comes in a tube you would insert in a caulking gun. Got it at Lowes. Not sure how it would work on dash cracks my guess is not that good. It's a good filler for small things but the consistency is probably too thin to fill bigger cracks.

Just got the M505 two weeks ago. Only a few pics so far. 46K miles and in excellent condition inside and out. In the process of going over it in detail now. I'll post better pics when I've gone thru it completely.

i wonder if the sun will dry it out like just about every other caulk except something like BoatLife Life-Calk for $18. It's tack free in 24hrs.

hope it works for everyone as i have a 930 f spoiler in pieces and haven't started the fun yet but i do have empathy.

If sun is the only issue mine should last forever

Seriously though, the location of the spoiler should limit sun exposure.

The color is Nougat Brown Metallic
