Transmission Rebuild Update

Hello All,

So I got my transmission back from Paul Weir's shop in Marysville after two weeks of seating there and brought it down to Denny Aker's place in Seattle on Friday afternoon. He called me on Wednesday, and said it needs a first gear, 1st, 2nd and 3rd synchro's, as well as a new front case piece where the shaft punched thru. Apparently the nut on the end of the shaft came undone. He asked if the bearings had been making any noise and I said no, so due to the cost ,they are not going to replace them. Any opinions on this? He said he had all parts located and total rebuild cost (with no money down needed) will be about $2000.00.

I just ordered the Sach's clutch kit and a Chrome molly clutch fork ball pin for $610.00+tax with free shippiing from Performance Products. With any luck I should have it on the road in another 1-1/2 weeks. Can't wait to take it on a 101 loop around the Olympic Peninsula.

shop around. there was a good 915 on ebay for that much. not sure what it needed but it might be a good deal.

do you have pics of damage of shaft punching through??

No, no pictures of where the shaft punched thru.

I want to keep the original 901 trans. All the numbers match and I'd like to keep it that way for resale value. The car is pretty much stock with the exception of a recent restoration of the interior in black leather rather than the original tan vinyl. The interior has brushed aluminum dash and rocker panel covers original to the car that I haven't seen on any other Porsche, it also has matching lower rear valance pieces. Unfortunately one of the lower rear quarter pieces is missing. Not sure how much it would cost to get a new fabricated.
