G50 Clutch issues?
My G50 clutch seems to be moody! Somedays the clutch effort is normal and shifting is fine. On most days the clutch effort is like that of a 2.5 Ton Truck and shifting is a pain. I recently had a spring put in on the pedal and all was well for a week. Then is reverted back to the truck pedel with lots of metal mesching feel. What causes this in the G50? One day fine and then?

I bet your car has not had the clutch cross shaft bushing fix applied to it.
The early G50's need to have the throw out cross shaft bushed. There are retro fit kits available via Pelican and others. The stock needle bearings go bad and then you get binding and potentially you can break off the cast mounts in the transmission body - then you're really hosed. First place I'd look is in this area. Especially if you are still getting complete disenagement between shifts, suggesting your hydraulics are still good.

++1 what Emery said... if the problem is the original type needle bearings....drop the engine as fast as possible and fix with bushing method. As Emery says if you break off the ears you are hosed like you won't believe. I like the kit that doesn't require drilling the ear holes. Do this fix as soon as you possibly can....

Does anyone have a G50 schematic to show the German wrench? My car came from Italy with little maintenance records. I have a feeling it did not have the upgrade. I see the kit in the catalog-the one that does not require drilling. Is this a do it yourself or does it require an engine drop? Thanks,
Jason

Jason, the engine drop is not difficult assuming you have jacks/etc. and some help. See if you can get another German Pelican to come over and help. Or there must be some sort of Germany Porsche club. Very likely many guys that would want to come help. I come to Germany about 1 or 2 times per year to Herborn. I would stop by and help but I'm not scheduled for a trip soon. I suggest to do the drop and inspect all the clutch materials and mechanisms. You may want to have 0.1mm taken off both surfaces of the flywheel, if needed. While you're in there replace or buff up the slave cylinder. I think almost for sure you need to drop and take the trans off the engine to press in the bushings for the no drill kit. You can read other threads...almost without exception people will not recommend trying to drop just the tranny... dropping the whole thing is too easy and makes for easy access to lots of other projects while it is dropped.

I'm working up the courage to drop the engine and trans. I'm mechanically capable but my time is limited. I love this car and don't mind throwing money at it but the dealer and the exchange rate are Killing me. I recently drove a 997 with the X50 power pack and all I can say is the 930 has a much better feel - some power. I justify my "money pit' of a car at the fact I have no payment compared to what the 997 payment would have been.
It's worth it!! After spending some time at the Hockenheim and The Nordschlife I was drawn to the wail of the flat six. Jason

ouch... I suppose the dealer wants 75 euros per hour or ? This model 911 is easy to work on given knowledge and a few tools. I'm guessing a 997 not so easy to work on. Are there independant mechanics in Germany that can work on your car? This may help. You might get cheaper parts ordering from the US and having them shipped to Germany ;-) Try not to get too rushed...take the time to look at what you are doing. Try and get some free help. In this area there are a few of us that between all of us pretty much have all the needed tools... we share as necessary. If invited over to help beer and snaks need to be provided... or at least beer.
