Riddle me this about the window switches...

Since I have owned the car the passenger side window switch was backwards. Up was down and down was up. I recently took apart the passenger side door to fix a rattle and turned the switch upside down to correct the problem.

So I put the door back together, test the switch and it is now working normally- up for up and down for down.

A couple of days later I try to lower the passenger window with my control on the driver side. To my surprise the passenger switch on my driver side now works in reverse! And I did not touch it at all.

Anyone have an explanation for this? I used the diagram in the Bentley manual to re-connect the contacts for the passenger window switch. Double checked it twice before I put the switch back in.

I would like to say I could just turn the driver side switch for the passenger window upside down but now I am not so sure.

I guess the passenger side switch could have been wired differently than the Bentley manual but it works fine now.

Any thoughts?

thanks

erik

You have the wires switched. (or someone before you)

On the offending switch, just reverse the wires that the arrows are pointing to.

thanks guys- now I guess I can just switch the diagrammed leads on the driver door passenger switch (the one that is reversed now) right?

If the driver's side switch worked correctly before you worked on the door, then the passenger side switch had to have been wired backwards to begin with. That also means the driver's side switch is backward. Both switches are linked to one another. But to answer your question, if you un-reverse the passenger side switch and switch the leads as syncroid said, both switches will work correctly.
