Who can rebuild/repair Carrera DME - reputable sources only please
My '87 DME died about 3 years ago and I wasn't too thrilled with the few companies that claimed to DME repair. I bought a new DME and running on it since, meanwhile the old DME is just collecting dust. Does anyone know of a reputable repairer?

Lorenfb, despite having a somewhat assertive Internet presence on this and other boards, has a very good reputation for repairing DMEs...

"somewhat assertive"... you kill me Wayne! One can only imagine, should there be any problem, how the conflict resolution would go.

Wayne, I admire your diplomacy.
Loren, despite his sometimes acerbic persona, is very knowledgeable. His website is: www.systemsc.com.

We just sent a 944 and 911 DME out for repair.....
Needless to say we didnt send them to Lorenfbs firm....His " assertive Internet presence",acerbic persona " are more than enough to sour us from using his services...I dont care how allegedly good his services are

Hopefully they were sent to Pelican Parts, as it appears that you've been a very high user of this website and realize it doesn't have a zero cost and DO wish to support it for the benefits you've received. But, if you are unaware, Pelican Parts has MANY sources for Porsche parts. If you can't find it on the website, call (Most businesses still use phones.) Scott, John, Jason, or Wayne if necessary.

I've learned a LOT from Loren's posts (although I disagree with his SW chip assesment), and would not hesitate to send my DME to him for repair. We're all "big boys", and the chip debate can get passionate at times, but that's OK by me
. I am MUCH more informed due to Loren's posts and the further research they have triggered. Lot's of "experts" have differing opinions on various subject matters...YMMV.

According to Wayne in another post, Pelican no longer uses Loren to rebuild CD boxes. Here's what he said . . . No, we no longer have Loren rebuilding our CD boxes. Not our choice - it was his. About 3-4 years ago, Loren must have been having a particularly bad day, and said something so outrageous on the forums, that I gave him a 3-day suspension. I don't remember what it was, but it was pretty over the top, even for Loren. A bunch of people were complaining too, so perhaps my fuse was short back then too. Well, he hasn't spoken to me or returned my emails or phone calls since. I wish he would, as I truly believe that Loren is an asset to the community as a whole. He used to come in all the time and talk with Tom Gould when he dropped off the CD boxes. I think I only talked with him in person once, but he is a totally different guy in person than online. I think part of his online persona stems from a frustration with people on the forums who seem to talk about things they don't really know too much about. That can be frustrating for me sometimes too. -Wayne

Another plug for Loren. Loren is Loren, we all know him by now
, but his work and business practice is great. I called on a Thursday and left a message. He returned my call within the hour, we arranged next day air shipping with my wrench. He got it on Friday, Diagnosed it, repaired it and had it back to me by Tuesday the next week. No problems since.-W

Good choice!!
I have always found Loren to be quite informative, and he will tell you just what he thinks about the subject at hand.
