$129 Tire storage solution.

Just picked this up from Tire Rack. http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/ttr/tire_storage_rack.jsp

It's high enough so no one will bump their head on it. Wheels are now completely out of the way. The build quality is far nicer than I expected. Installation is really easy; I'd give it a "two bloody knuckles" rating.

My rating system works like this:

1) One bloody knuckle; Filling gas tank, plugging in small appliances.
2) Two bloody knuckles; Changing tires, mowing a lawn, fixing a faucet.
3) Bloody hands requiring bandages; ANY engine or transmission work.
4) What the hell was I thinking?; Roofing, any activity that takes place in the dark crawl spaces under the house. ANY type of electrical work. Work in this category generally ends up with a visit to the emergency room.

Nice. That thing looks like it has adjustable width. That's a handy feature for those of us with wide wheels/tires. Assume you located studs and mounted it that way? I definitely see one of those in my future. No more tripping over tires or having dirt accumulated under around a stack of unused wheels. Thanks for the tip and the injury-meter!

Looks great, but I think you need a safety for when the shaker comes. All four of those on the front of your car will not be pretty.

Nice. A friend built something similar. But he's OCD, so he went into the crawlspace and tied it into the house structure. I naturally assumed that's what was required, so I haven't built my own, but I could sure use the space. Looks like I need to check this out!

Thanks

It's adjustable width and the hanging bracket comes pre-drilled for 16" on center studs. It's hung with 6X 3" lag bolts directly into studs. For earthquake safety I'll cable the wheels to the rack. I don't think the rack's coming down unless the house does.

What is your garage floor and baseboard material and finish? Also, where are you located?

I see you are "out there" but I'm assuming you are not wandering in a middle eastern desert, despite your name.

I'm in northern California. The floor is concrete with epoxy paint. No baseboard, just a 3" concrete lip all around.

Thanks Moses! I've been tripping over my 6 and 7 Fuchs since I put on the 7.5 and 9 Rota Foxes. This item just went on the 'ole Xmas list!

This is what I got for my garage:

http://www.pitposse.com/folduptirerack.html

Really secure. Only draw back was poor assembly directions. Figured it out and got it all install in under an hour.
