Possible to install a short muffler in lieu of catalytic converter on '84 - '88?
I was wondering if anybody tried to place a short muffler where the cat is on a Carrera, '84 thru '88? Looks like a short turbo type may just fit.

Why not leave the cat to help the environment and just use a freer flowing muffler? That way you get the same flow you would with your current plan but also help out the air.

Someone else posted that they had tried that (earlier in th eyear I think). They said it was way too loud and did not sound that great IIRC.

I did this. Here is the thread: Another Flowmaster muffler option: Hushpower II on the side
It is almost loud enough to hear over the wind noise in the Targa.

Fabspeed Euro Pre-Muffler & Muffler Bypass tip. I run this setup when not running the M&K muffler. It is loud, but fantastic tone-wise. Wish it was about 10db lower.
No change on the dyno vs. muffler on my 84, though.
