Oile leaking: From Where? dangerous? Expencive?
 

Few days ago, there was maybe a half liter with motor oil under my car, I went to a garage for chequeing it up, but what?
We could not find out from where it came from. It is from the rear passanger side, and maybe close to the oil filter or a little bit under. It do not come from the bottom, and the car maybe still lweaking a drop or two (not much).
My oil instrument in the car has gone down maybe 2 - 3 mm from the top, from top level, and it is still way to the red limit.
What can it be? is it dangerous ? shall I stop driving the car? and, will it cost me a lot of money?

Yes, stop driving the car. Your engine is more or less oil cooled and being without oil is sort of like a water cooled engine losing its coolant. Not to mention the lack of lubrication that occurs without enough oil. Get some spray degreaser like Brake Cleaner and clean all the oil from the area where you think the leak is coming from. Then fill it, start it and watch it leak to see where it comes from.

Forgot to tell: I have a 911 SC Coupe -79
and about temperature, it runs like normal, It do not get any hotter.

Did you recently change the oil? My 82 did the same thing after the place I bought it from changed the oil and overfilled it.

If you did recently change the oil, have a look in the air box, there may be a puddle of oil in there. If the car has not been serviced recently, do what Nick said, and clean it to try and find the leak.

The company I bought it from, I think put to much oil in my car, I heard a 911 have to go(the motor) when you check it, and it is maybe 0.5 cm to much.
What I want to do, is to go to a Porsche garage and tell them to just fix it, IT IS TO GOOD CAR TO NOT DO IT), but I am just afraid this is bad/ heavy excpensive.

What I did to fix mine was buy a few feet of clear tubing from a hardware store, and removed the extra oil through the fill tube.

Slow and messy, but nearly free. I think the tubing cost me about $2.

If you are really a cheap SOB, (like me) you can save it in a clean container to add back later when your car has consumed some.

Do open up your air box, you probably have a nice oil puddle in there.

Who went through this last month.

We think maybe your only problem is too much oil. it should be fully warm when you check it. Check it when fully warm, and reduce the oil amount if necessary. If the problem persists, then maybe take it to a shop for repair.

My 911 started leaking from the same place. I found out it was the O-ring on the engine oil thermostat. Took at lot of patience to replace that $3.00 part!

If the oil tank is overfilled. I just found a new to me, tool. Suction Pump. Basically, a big straw. Sold right with the lube guns. I bought it to change mY 915 gearbox oil this spring. $12US @ NAPA.

Check the "O" rings in your oil returns tubes.

My buddy's '78 SC just started to leak a lot of oil. It was the oil cooler seals. We figure the cold temps in this area made the oil a little too thick on startup, and blew the seals. Bummer for him, I gather these are not easy to get at with the motor in the car.
