Dansk Dual-Outlet Muffler Install
Hi everyone,
Just ordered a Dansk stainless dual-84mm (3.5") outlet muffler. This is the one with the two big polished stainless outlets out each end. Are any of you running this muffler on an SC or Carrera? Were you able to install it without modifying the bumper or the bumper extentions? I know I will have to modify the valence, but my parts supplier seemed to think (he wasn't sure) that this muffler's outlets may hit the bumper or the ends of the bumper extentions. I ordered it anyway. Man is this a beautiful piece of metal. If any of you haven't seen this muffler, go find a picture. You'll want one I guarantee! Thanks for your replies. Nick. ------------------ _ ______ _ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe |

Nick,
If it looks as good in person as it does on the cover of the Performance catalog, it will be a great musical instrument, huh? I've got one on order that is backordered until the first week of March! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Warren,
I have seen one up close, it was a single-inlet but has the same outlets. Stunning. I wasn't impressed by the pictures I saw, but when I saw it in person...Wow! Mikez, A pic would be great, if its not too much trouble. I'd like to see how you did your valence. You can post it or send it to me at nickshu@yahoo.com Thanks, Nick. ------------------ _ ______ _ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe |

Nick,
I noticed in the Dansk ad in Excellence magazine, they show some lovely-looking heat exchangers, and also a cat replacement pre-muffler. I'm going to look into these products myself. ------------------ Regards, Doug '81 SC Coupe |

A fellow PCAer in my region put one of these "mufflers" on his '70. It looked great but was unbearably loud. I presume you know this going in. The fellow liked it, for a while. His neighbors damn near shot him. Y'all know I like hotrods, but these things are loud!

Well, as a noise remedy we can always put SuperTrapp disk assemblies on the outlets, but I doubt any of my neighbors will complain ... there are three college kids on this block with loud pickup trucks that come and go at all hours of the night, parties, etc.

Rarly...I doubt it was a Dansk...mine is 84dbA compared to over 94-96dbA with the Borla, B&B and the sporterized oem muffler.
That is the selling point. Not as quiet as stock, but quieter than the others...never tried the Monty's or Fabspeed, so they may be different. But the tracks I go to, have noise nazis. Gotta be nice neighbors to the dickhead condo owners that surrround tracks that have been there for years...kinda like moving near the airport and *****ing about the planes....but airlines have better lawyers... |

Mike Z, I replaced my B&B twin in/twin out with a Fabiani. It is much louder. the only reason I used it is that for the B&B headers there is a very limited selection of mufflers. I will not buy another B&B muffler unless they can get their act together. The Super Traps make great power when few or no disks are in place, however when enough disks are used to quiet it they KILL power.

A friend of mine has such a Dansk muffler on his 87 Turbo Look Cabriolet (the PLAYBOY car shown on my web site). I can tell you that it sounds so good. I'm going to put such a muffler on my car that's for sure. It's deep and loud at the same time without sacrificing "the 911 sound".
The Dansk exhausts are being made here in Denmark by Dansk Autopart. This company is an OEM supplier to Porsche in Germany. Their products, both OEM and aftermarket, are of high quality indeed. |

Mike - could very well be that the muffler I saw / heard was a different type. It was stainless w/3+ inch outlet on each end requiring modification to the rear of the car to exit. Very beautiful piece, but damn it was loud. I don't think there was any sound deadening in it at all. The quality of the sound also was not so good. I think the guy paid a grand for the thing. That experience is what sent me on my own quest for something better, and cheaper.

While we are talking mufflers...... Dansk, B&B, Bursch, and others have been mentioned.
Anybody have a GHL on their car? GHL claims to have a very mellow sound, and not too loud. ------------------ Regards, Doug '81 SC Coupe |
