Dissapointed or Excited?
I finally got all the cylinders and they appear good. What I was hopping to find out from you guys with experiece is this;
In removing the top end I found two broken head studs (cylinder #6 exhaust and cylinder #1 intake) and two collided or burned exhaust valves (cylinder #2 and 1 cylinder #6). Should I be dissapointed because these will likely cost me (much?) more money than expected or should I be excited because of the MUCH better performance I will see when the job is done. Keep in mind that this is the only 911 I have ever drived and I have only driven it with these engine problems. I'm just curious as to what I'm up against here with these screwed valves. Adam Roseneck btw... I may be wrong about the cylinder #'s but they are close, just too tired to check right now. ------------------ 1978 911SC 3.0 roseneck@cyberbeach.net |

Neither, you should be embarrassed that you didn't have a proper buyers inspection done prior to purchase.

Ouch Tyson, that one hurt.
![]() ![]() I tend to be fairly positive so I'm also looking at this as a learning expericene. You are wrong about free though, this is going to cost me an arm and a leg. I have this gene that just doesn't allow me to do things unless I go all out. Ah well, what can ya do. I'm going to put some ice on my crotch before it swells and gets even bigger. If the rest of you could please aim your cheap shots above the waist that would be great... ![]() Just playin' Adam Roseneck |

Yeah, the car went like snot even with all those problems, can't wait till she's fixed up. This probably explains the poor acceleration below about 3000 rmp, especially on take off. I was probably running 30 psi on those two cylinders.
The anger is brewing inside me again, I hope I never see that Guy or the Mechanic again... then again, I hope I do.... Adam Roseneck ------------------ 1978 911SC 3.0 roseneck@cyberbeach.net |

You should be excited! I am continuing to drive a car that, unless a valve adj. and Techron runs have cleaned it up, is running 15% leakdown in one cylinder. Can you imagine what I will find when I finally get around to what you are doing...
In all events, when you complete this one, and get that sucker fired up, you'll know it was done right and that you saw to that yourself. Jw |

Well Adam, you passed the humor test. You are now an official board member. Unless Kurt B. wants to take a few shots at you. He's merciless!
Just tell yourself that this is an excuse to do the mods you would have done soon enough anyway. Which I'm sure is true, right? Fun is never cheap. At least you don't have a coke habit. That would be more expensive and you'd have literally nothing to show for it. If you hadn't wrecked, it wouldn't have been long before you'd be dreaming of more power. Now you can get it and sympathy from friends and family at the same time. No flack for disassebling a perfectly running engine. I'd say it's a blessing in disguise! Oh, and about the cheap shots. At least I didn't make any jokes about your name, my crimson throated friend. (Go ahead and take a shot at mine. With my name, I'm WIDE open) ------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 Cabriolet |

Thanks for the official greeting into the club. I can take it, I hear all about it from my co-workers and friends from school, it goes something like this:
"Hey Porsche boy, watch out for those guard rails on the way home eh!" My skin is thick, plus, I can't wait to blow by them when this puppy is finnished. I'll leave your name alone Tyson, that would be too easy... Adam Roseneck ------------------ 1978 911SC 3.0 roseneck@cyberbeach.net |
