SSI installation problem?
I have installed my new SSIs on my 81 911SC. It all went ok, but I am a little worried about one thing. The new oil line (one with the flexable hose) from the thermostat to the new hard line into the engine, is slightly kinked. I can not see how this line can be installed without a small bend occuring in the line. Is this a problem? I would say that at the bend, the inside diameter is reduced by 10 - 20 percent or so. If this is a problem, what should I do to fix it.

Bill, Thanks, but that is exactly what I have, and it is the hose in picture #2 that is kinked. I think it is just a little to long, and when it bends back to meet the other line (picture #1) it kinks. Thanks for the pictures, because I at least know that I have installed them correctly. I just don't know how to get the kink out of that hose.

I got it! I fixed the problem on the kinked oil line, and have test driven it today. Wow, what a difference it made. The car is much more responsive. It has much more torque and has a more linear power band now. No oil leak as of yet either. Thanks for the pictures of the oil lines, it helped alot to see what it should look like.

Glad to hear you solved your kinked oil pipe problem. I posted similar comments recently and as yet still haven't solved the problem. My excuse for delay is that I'm replacing all underbody bushes, bearings and complete brake system at the same time.
Bill's photo may help but I have a question? what is the vertical distance (approx) between the oil pipe centre line as it emerges parallel to the engine oil cooler and the bolt fixing the engine sheet metal to the cooler. I have used this bolt as the pick-up point for the oil pipe anchor bracket and I suspect it's too close thus casuing too acute an angle for the flexible portion of the pipe as it does a 180 degree turn. |
I did not use the anchor bracket on the oil line, because I have mad some modifications to the sheet metal surounding the engine. I feel that the line is secure enough that it is not needed (as per others that have done the same thing) I hope this is right and does not cause a problem.
