Just did first CV Joint..need suggestions

So I just did my first CV Joint repak...only one of the joints so far.

So I found some pitting.

But I had to repack it, because it is my daily driver.

Is there any cheap places for CV joints?

How bad is bad?

There are some very well worn grooves.

Are these reasons for a change too?

And I was thinking...what if you had a PVC pipe the diameter of a CV joint, with a syringe type plunger...you could load it up with grease, put it over the CV, press the grease into the joint, fully filling it and no mess?

Maybe I will go into business selling them

well thank for any imput

CVs are just nasty work, no getting around it. That special CV grease is just horrid to get off your hands.

Unless you have play in the CVs I would not worry about wear marks. The CVs will start to "klunk" on take offs and you can twist the drive axles back and forth without the wheel/tranny moving.

If these CVs are an unknown I would recommend taking them off, disassembling, and cleaning thoroughly with mineral spirits. This process will be measy, but will insure it is clean of debris and gets all new grease. Especially do this if your CV boots were torn open.

I have heard of people using a syringe(sp) to load it with grease and poke a whole in the CV boot and inject the grease. Worth a shot if you know the CVs are in good shape.

Have Fun!
