EGR: Where is it? 1979 SC

I just failed a California smog only test because the test center couldn't find the EGR valve.

I searched "EGR" in Pelican and showed the results (part 26 on the diagram) to the test center and they say that's not it. That's just the check valve for the air pump.

Can anyone help me confirm it's not there by telling me where to look on a 1979 911 SC?

Thanks!

On mine the egr was on top of engine, passenger side at the front, ahead of intake runner #6. You'll see the valve, and a hard line running down throught the tin, past the heat exchanger and tapping into the cross-over exhaust pipe. The is also a hard line from the valve into the bottom back side of the airbox. You won't see this unless you remove the CIS system or drop the engine! There are also 2 vacuum lines that tap into the backside of the throttle body. I removed mine, but I had the CIS off so it was easy. I had to cut the lower hardline to remove it (better than taking the exchanger off!).

"Better" until the emissions regulations require its re-installation and you discover the "mutilated" parts are NLA.

did they seem to know where to be looking for it? the test only i use seems to get info on where to locate it off the computer or some book he references during the test. either way he knows right where to find it and feels it up a bit before proceeding to the sniff portion. he really cant see if it is hooked up complete like because its so hidden and they dont check where it ties to the cross over with it on the ground.

pound for pound the reinstall of the egr is the biggest pain in the ace of the exhaust swap i do every two years. and yes that includes air pump plumbing, HE, and oil lines.

if its not there i would try partsheaven for one. be prepared though ($$$), nobody looking for one of those is NOT desperate.

Our host shows it still available (item #7) - not no-brainer cheap though:

Thanks all.

spuggy: The diagram is helpful. Cardiff by the Sea is just North of Del Mar in San Diego county.

Really? LOL. Meant nothing to me at all, because of the lack of any references around it. i bet the photos from Cliff were much more useful!

Oh, right, OK.

I know exactly where Del Mar is, after spending a day or two listening to the live SD scanner feeds and looking at the fire maps. My SO is at UCSD...

Update:
I dropped the car off at the local Porsche dealer (Hoehn) and asked them to verify that it didn't have an EGR valve, and install the same if necessary. Hoehn called me back and informed me that it's a "federal car" which did not come with the device. And, further advised me that they had called Test Only Center and are forwarding the documentation necessary to pass the car without the EGR valve.

I did some googling and couldn't find much about the distinciton between California cars and federal cars. A less scrupulous shop could have easily put a bunch of cash in the till. It's nice to find someone worthy of trust.
