Clutch Cable Adjustment-Bowden Tube

I recently had the motor out of my new to me '84 Targa to fix a number of oil leaks and to replace the clutch. I had the flywheel resurfaced and replaced the pp and disk. Prior to the engine/clutch work, I had severe clutch chatter. After the reinstall, I am still having a little chatter that I am trying to diagnose. I have adjusted the clutch cable using the 1.2mm/1.0mm gaps in the adjustment bolt on the clutch levers.

I have read a number of threads that say to make sure the bowden tube is correctly preloaded so that it does not contact the throttle linkage. The info also says to make sure that the tube is properly seated on the nipple at the firewall. My tube has about an inch or so space between the throttle linkage and does not make contact with the side of the transmission and is also seated on the nipple.

However, from my reading, it appears that the bowden tube should slip over the nipple so that it actually touches the firewall. My tube does not seem to be on all the way and I suspect this is contributing to my chatter. Can someone confirm if the bowden tube in this picture is properly seated or needs to be pushed on further. The red arrow shows where the end bowden tube is currently sitting on the nipple. It feels like it is hitting a stop, but I suspect that the nipple has some corrosion on it due to the tube not being properly seated for a long time.

Thanks
Joe

I would say take a long screwdriver and tap it in with a light hammer to make sure its seated.
To make the clutch adjust you need the clutch cable forward at the clevis needs 17 to 20 turns so you have enough bowden tube to adjust clutch. The further the tube adjusts on the bottom of the trans forward the higher the petal will come up and then the engagement follows.
