Can anyone offer advice on rebuilding a 911 steering rack? I have 2 racks. One is from and SC and the other is from a 914. The SC rack was in my 914/6 race car that I crashed at Road Atlanta this past Club Race weekend. The SC rack was slightly damaged. One of the 2 threaded mounting holes cracked the outside 1/3 to 1/2 of the aluminum off adjacent to the mounting hole. I think this could be repaired by a Master Welder (certainly not me). I have purchased a Quick Ratio Ring and Pinion. It will increase the Ratio from 3.1 turns lock to lock to 2.3 turns. This rack is going in the new 914/6 race car I am building.
Did Porsche ever make a rack out of magnesium? Is it available? I want the new rack to be as perfect as reasonably possible with regards to function, no slop, smoothness, etc. Is there any advantage to starting with any particlular rack or will one of the two I have be fine? Thanks!! Tony Last edited by TClinton9146; 11-13-2007 at 12:00 PM.. Reason: spelling error |

Do a search here on the board. I seem to recall that Tim Hancock posted something about rebuilding his steering rack.
