Mass Air Flow Kit
Does anyone have experience with the mass air flow kits offered by autothority? Is the performance increase as great as they claim? I am debating wherether to install one or not, considering by engine is a european model, if the kit raises the US model to 250, does that mean I would expect to see the 270 hp range?

Dante:
I have one on my 94 C2, but it came with the car so I have no comparison experience. Above 4K it is incredibly fast (even with stock exhaust). The PPI mechanic said it's among the quickest NA 964's he's driven, so I could guess that the MAF has some effect. I recently orderd a cup pipe to replace my primary which should reduce back pressure a bit and improve the butt-dyno results even more (not to mention the sound). BTW, the intake sound with the MAF and K&N cone filter is awesome!!! Rgds, Mike 94 C2 cab |

According to Bruce Anderson's book the MAF is good for about 7 HP on a 3.2 Carrera. The autothority claims are a bit optimistic.
The other thing to note is that the increase is only at the top end, above 5000 rpm. It is also likely to make less improvement on an otherwise stock engine. The MAF is about opening up the intake for high volume air flow, so engines that have other components (headers, cam, etc) matched are going to see the best gains. |
