Early aluminum Engines and Trans
I was wondering if the early aluminum transmissions are as valuable as the early aluminum engine cases. I have one of each, bone stock for both of them and am wondering whats fair and what isn't. I think the case could fetch 1200-1500 but what about the trans? Do the racers or restorers like them?
Thanks, Nabil

It just depends, but generally no. Early Al engine cases are valuable due to the fact they so sturdy compared to mag cases. Mag 901s don't fail like mag engine cases do, so the diference in desirability along those lines in nominal. Where value comes in is to people who want a correct tranny for their car and are willing to pay for it in the interest of time or convenience. I just bought a 901/0 for my '65 which had a later mag trans in it, but I got it for a fair price compared to its mag brethren. I don't think the difference is there in price, unless you find someone who needs something very specific.

For context, I just paid $650 (shipped from VA to WA) for a complete 901/0. It is supposedly a runner, but was sold as a core and will be rebuilt.
