Getty or MA Shaw fibreglass pieces
Anybody got any experience with a duck tail from either of the above manufacturers? Fit and finish? Mounting ease?
If you don't want to post to this board, you can email me at sbmackie@msn.com Thanks Scott |

I thought I heard that both those companies sell pieces pulled from the same molds, but I may be wrong. I don't think you could go wrong with either. They both have good reputations.

No fiberglass piece is going to bolt right in and perfectly replace the original metal part without some massaging. That said, the two suppliers you have mentioned are top notch. I have purchased bumper covers from Getty which were very good quality. In the past, Shaw's duck tails have also had good reviews. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
I don't believe that each supplier manufactures all of the pieces that they offer.

Shaw rsr front and rear bumpers here. Minor massaging necessary but good fit overall.

I have an IROC front bumper/air dam and a fiberglass rear bumper from Getty, and they both went on as though they were OEM steel parts.

Ma Shaw RS America rear wing. Required very minor work and prep by the paint shop, bolted right on and it looks SPECTACULAR.

My buddy & I both got a wing from Getty (3.8 and GT-2). Installation is 100% bolt on. The fit-&-finish is very good - you can almost start painting with just a bit of light sanding. Happy customers.

Very happy with Getty parts. One item which impressed me was a fiberglass longhood, when held by one RS style support bar/stick, it doesn't sag like some other ones I've seen. I've also heard MA Shaw and Getty are similar if not the same.

Thanks for all the inputs. I've made my decision, and assuming it gets done, I'll post some before and after pic's on another thread.

Sorry to butt in with a question, but when you say that FG parts need minor massaging, what are we talking about exactly ?
It is a fitment issue ? If so, what? You twist it , you lay it in the sun? what? Or is it just the roughness of the finish ? in whihc case you sand it ? Just curious... Another thing, do those bumpers come with stock mounting points and just bolt on, or do you need to somehow figure that out yourself ? Sorry if those are silly questions, but I've never bought any FG part and am considering a backdate ! |

Generally "massaging" refers to the work you have to do to get everything to lined up right with decent gaps. You may just have to sand something down, or add material, grind edges down, ovalize holes, reshape contours, block sand, etc. The higher quality mold the part came from, the less work you have to do.

My Getty duck went on with no issues. Word is Shaw gets his ducks from Getty.

I recently ordered the yellowbird non-turbo parts (fenders & bumpers) from Getty. Still waiting to have them installed.
In the process I spoke with A. Getty. He said that some of his parts are carried by MaShaw. From others posts online, both got great reviews in comparison with others. Read the Getty catalog. It has little marketing blurbs that really give you a sense of the product quality. Note: They refered to their product as Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP). This gives it the increased rigdity. Their experience ccomes through when you talk with them and reviewtheir website... |

I bought an Shaw duck a couple years ago. The fit is good - not perfect, but good, with no sanding, shaping or adding material. The gaps are a little large, and because there's only a shock on the left side, it required several spacers on the right to get it to sit flat. I spent about 2 hours with after it got back from the paint shop (which was $200) and got it reasonably close. I could probably get it to fit a bit better if I spent more time with it, but there are more important issues to deal with with the car...

Which is another way of saying that anything from the cheapest fiberglass dingy hull to the most expensive carbon-fiber Boeing part is FRP.
