smoke on start-up

I know 911's will smoke on start-up, mine does as well. Lately it's a cloud of smoke. I run my garage fan facing the front of my car, in an effort to keep the smoke out of my garage. Sometimes it won't smoke at all. When she does smoke, the car could be on a slant parked or, she could be on a level spot. I'm wondering if its time for a valve job at 137000 miles?

I found mine smokes more when the front end is higher than the rear when parked on a hill. Also if the oil level is slightly high, it will smoke more.

Aleak down test will help you fnd the problem. Typically, worn exhaust valves will produde smoke on decelleration, worn rings somke on acceleration. The leak down test will tell you if you have leaks in the intake valves, exhaust valves and/or rings regardless of where the loud pedal is positioned.

Assuming the smoke is out of the exhaust pipe vs around the engine, I am thinking worn rings or intake valves.

Could be rings or valve guides. Do a leakdown.

A tight engine usually doesn't smoke on start up unless it's been sitting for a good length of time.

I get that too. My car typically sits for a week at a time before start ups. Sometimes more.
