What kind of bit do I need?

What kind of bit does this require and where can I get one? The star bits I have are either too large or too small and I don't want to strip them out, they already look pretty messed up.

That should read "do I need" not "d I need";)

Most call it a triple square bit, it has 12 points. Not sure what size you need.

Door Striker Tool

Eck,

I have this tool for years and don't know what's it is called. You need an 8 mm tool to remove the securing bolts for 911 door striker. Good luck.

What you need is a Spline bit (AKA triple square as mentioned by equality) :

If you can't get from Sears then you can find here from $2.50...

As boyt911sc states you want 8mm (AKA M8 or #8)

triple square

avoid asking for a 'spline' as you might get a Bristol Spline - which won't work properly (or if you're lucky won't fit in there at all). It is some British thing with more meat near the center.

An hand impact driver and BFH will also assist in removing these stubborn fasteners.

Spline bits are called for when working on VWs. My assumption is that these are one in the same.

Here is the tool I'm thinking of. Used for VW/Audi...described as a Spline tip driver for door lock assemblies.

Could be the same, as I used a triple square #10? on our Jetta door lock assembly. Except it was a socket and not a driver.

Not sure if the spline tool I've seen is one in the same with the triplesquare. To Randy's point there are proprietary versions of the format.

I only mention this tool as a friend has both the driver and similar bit.

as mentioned, a 12-point tool AND a product called ' screw grab'. google it, it's awesome stuff. it's like little tiny chunks of carbide in a sticky goo. really makes a good grip between your tool and the fastener.

Oddly enough, that tool showed up in a couple of the later 3.2 tool kits I have. Not sure where else it is used on the car though.
