How to refinish wheels?
My 88 Carrera has BBS wheels: aluminum rims and silver painted spokes. They are scuffed and discolored in places. Can I remove the clearcoat with steel wool, fine sand paper or should I use a liquid solvent? Do I need to put new clearcoat on the aluminum rim or can I just polish and wax?
Wheel shops charge over $100 per wheel to do this, so I want to try myself, but want to do it right! Do any stores sell wheel refinishing kits in one package? |

Just got a new Tweeks catalog and noticed they have such a kit for $39.99. Cans of 12 oz clear coat spray are $9.99 ea.
www.madirect.com Caught my eye also, let me know how it works if you give it a try. |

If the clear coat it not thru to the wheel you might try some 1500-2000 grit sandpaper and sand a little spot and hit it with some rubbing compound and see if that works

for everyone who has re-finished rims or had them prof re-finished:
can curb rash be eliminated from the rims. or is re-finishing just going to take care of the minor blemishes? the po managed to curb all four rims and i would like to re-finish them this spring myself. the rash is about 1/16" deep and 3/8" high into the rim. would it be a wasted effort in trying to "sand out" the curb rash? thanks. bob |
