Vehicle Code Decipher

Hey all,

I'm trying to figure out some information about my '82 Targa. I actually have the warranty voucher that came with the car originally, and I was wondering if somebody could decipher the codes for me. Here goes:

Type -- 911444
Engine No. -- 6401016
Paint No. - Interior -- GIGI YE (I think)
Optional Equipment -- M06197577

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Alan

Try looking it up on the Porsche AG site under catalog for your year

VIN-- 911444
Engine-- 6401016

The VIN number is in line with a 1974 car and the engine is from a 1980. Check the engine type, which should be 930/07. That number will be located to the right of the engine number on the top of the engine case. It may be hard to find but it is there.

I would look in the trunk and near the smugglers box is another stamping of the chassis production number which is similar to your vin. Check that number and post it to confirm you chassis is all from one car originally. Curious to know how it has been registered as an 82. An 82 VIN should start like this:
91CS16xxxx for the Targa and 91CS12xxxx for the coupe.

I'm at work right now, so I can't get the VIN, but the 911444 is NOT the VIN of the actual car. I do have a VIN that starts with the WPOEA91CS...... I'll post it later. The warranty voucher is dated December of '81, so it looks to be true to the car. I'll see if I can get a pic of the page that I'm referring to later today.

can't find anything else but Code 197 shows up as Higher amperage battery . I misunderstood your original question on the type 911444. Not sure what that refers to either.
