DIY Keyless Entry Upgrade for Factory Power Door Locks
Has anyone DIY or upgraded their Factory Power Door Locks to the Remote Controlled Keyless Entry?
If so, please post the product and your experience. I was thinking of having the Viper System installed but wanted to do more research to optimize my current factory set up. Also if you installed the Keyless Entry, were you able to hook up the factory alarm to the unit? Any opinions or re-direct to links are greatly appreciated ;) |
Yes, I did it with a system from crutchfield. You need the 2 actuators and relay kit. You also have to get creative with mounting them. Save yourself some time and search on my username, I posted pics of how I mounted them.

i up-graded to factory door lock hardware and wired it into the Viper alarm with another relay system.

I would think that if you already have factory power door locks, one of the relatively inexpensive remote door lock kits would work, being that you already have the factory, power actuators in place. I have not done this upgrade on the P-car, but I have done it on other makes that already had factory power locks, very easy.

I had an '88 that had factory central locking. I installed a Viper alarm and integrated that for the remote door unlock. There's a brown wire that, I think, runs into the door that can be tapped into for the remote door unlocking. Unfortunately it's been about 6-7 years since I did the install, so I don't have any more detail. I'm pretty sure that it's been covered here before, so if you do a search you should eventually be able to find more detailed info. If not, you can try contacting http://caraudioinnovations.com/. He specializes in Porsches and was the one that helped me years ago.
You don't need anything but the remote door lock unit. I suspect the poster that suggests actuators is thinking of a car that doesn't already have power locks. |
Thank you Gentlemen!

Here you go. Look no further.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/304308-installing-remote-keyless-entry.html?highlight=remote+entry :D I saw this link and did the same thing. One tiny issue is that they changed the color of some of the wires since it was done, so I had to do an additional 1 hour of troubleshooting to get it right. I included the light flashing and it worked perfectly. Even when I have disconnected the battery a few times, it still came pack properly. Go for it, you will not disappointed. |

Marble Grey!
Welcome. Patrick from Brea has one to. Can't wait to see them both together. Cooool color. Also, the manufacturer of the unit is from Cerritos/Norwalk and you can get any parts easily. I bought it via the internet after doing a search.SmileWavy |
My Baby has a twin in Socal? Nice.
Are you guys going to the next PCA Fun Run? If so PM me so we can take pics :D Cerritos/Norwalk? It looks like a road trip for my Baby and me. Thanks again brother, hope to see you and Patrick one of these days. |
Update: Just ordered it thru Electronics Express $29 ($40.08 with S&H). They are the only ones who had it stock. The Manufacturer is evn out it, they won't get a new shipment until EOM.
Can't wait to install it :D |
so my question is has anyone figured out how to squeeze a door unlock/alarm transmitter in the porsche key button instead of the little LED light? ;)
|
that would be nice
