Window problems - not the switches!

1986 Carrera Targa. Passenger window is inoperable from neither the passenger nor driver's door. Got new switches, tested for 12V and ground on appropriate wires. Tested resistance of motor leads : 0.04 Ohms. Door open buzzer changes in pitch when passenger window switch is activated. Window is stuck in the fully up position.

What next? Could whatever switch that cuts the motor when the window is fully up be stuck? How would one determine that, and how would one un-stick it?

Thanks in advance!

Do you hear the window regulator motor running when you try the switch up and down?

Have you pulled the door panel and taken a look?

No, I don't hear the motor running or straining to run. I haven't taken the panel off yet, but that's the next step. Any suggestions on what to look for once it's off?

Take off the panel. Disconnect the motor leads from the switch and place a meter in place of the motor. Operate the switches. If you have power then its the motor if you don't check the ground connections.

Check the connectors at the switches - I was SURE I put them back together correctly after making detailed notes and labelling the wires, but somehow I reversed two of the brown wires. My driver's window went up, down just fine, the passenger window would go down ONLY when I depressed both window switches on the driver's door, and would go back up automatically when I let go of either switch.

I discovered my mistake after replacing the two door interlock switches, all three window switches and the relay. Duh.

Somebody's got the correct schematic in a past thread, can't be more helpful than that, I'm afraid.

This is from an 84 passenger side switch.

My 85 had two brown wires to the switch in question, so there is some variation. The schematic I got off Pelican was from the Bentley manual and was specific to the 85. The 86 could be different, for all I know.
