My 912E is 25 years old and so am I. The old 928 is a mere 17 years old, a "youngster" so to speak. I was lucky enough to be given the 912E as a gift when I graduated from Penn State at the age of 22.

With things like ages and income, it's sometimes best to present the median: the value of which half of the data is above and half of the data is below. This will be a more telling number of the "ages of our drivers" than the arithmetic mean of 36 given above (because of outliers on one side (older) while unlikely outliers below(younger) which has a tendency to skew the mean positively.

I would do it myself, but I don't feel like writing everything down from that other post!

Kurt, that would make the median approximately 35 yrs old. 1/2 were above 35 and 1/2 were below 35.

Hey!!
-
I'm not the oldest (58). The only reason I gave my age is because Jack K gave his age at 67 - - and of course, Alan Herod was sneaky in his reponse too, but he ain't no youngster either!

Wow...thanks shakenbake.
Still, I'm jealous of the kids who have 912s and 911s before they're out of their teens...
Let's see, when I was 18 I had a POS Civic.
Then I have a VW bug in which the headlights only worked when it was humid, but on a hot dry day, half the electric components worked.

I didn't get a 914 til I was 25, and the 911 at 30!

Chuck -- I was sneaky, but at least we can console ourselves with the fact that when the Gore machine (or someone like him) gets back in office, they won't be able to outlaw our evil poluting cars until we are too old to worry too much about it. If the average age is 36, what will be allowed on the road 20 years from now?

And despite the fact that both my car and I are so old, I drove it to work today -- the way home wasn't as much fun, already 2 - 3 inches of snow and ice. Does not bode well for VIR this weekend.

27and 25.
Me and the Porsche. In that order :-)

How long have I owned one?
1 year
How long have I wanted one?
22 years.

And yeah, who the hell is the 15 year old??!!!

I had a 1969 Ford MK1 Escort 1300S when I was 16 and I thought I was the king of the world. (If i had a Porsche I would have been the Emperor of the Universe)
That was until I got wasted and me and my buddies had to explain to my old man why the hell the drive was covered in black rubber stripes!!!
I bought the car because I thought I would build a replica rally car with big bubble arches, but it never panned out. But thats another story.

You guys in the US maybe dont appreciate the coolness of a MK1 Escort RS. I'll try to drag up some pics and you can see what I mean.

You think that 19 is a youthful age to own a Porsche? Head on over to the bimmer.org site and do a search on ages. Jeez, I couldn't believe the responses. Dozens of youngsters (< 22 years) driving brand new E46 BMWs, ranging anywhere from $36,000 to $45,000. Granted, that money won't buy a new 996 but it would sure go a long way toward something from the mid-1990s.

I have loved Porsches since i was 5. I am 17 years old and own a recently rebuilt customized wide body 1970 porsche 911 T. Now i know all of you are thinking this car was just given to me and that i am lucky (which maybe i am) and spoiled...think again! I got the car when i was 14 years old. The plan was to rebuild the car so when i was 16 i could drive it,,,
It was slightly more complicated than just a simple rebuild, Turns out the whole under body had to be rebuilt and rocker assemblies, torque tube..etc. Well this made this seemly inexpensive project exspensive. Also the engine needed to be rebuilt.

Well to make a long story short...i finally have the unibody in my garage only after 2 1/2 years in the shop by expert Doug Kilean at AutoKraft in Lincoln, NE who worked on the car in his free time to keep costs low. Between the ages of 14-17 i have been working every summer and during the skool year for tht car that i still owe money to my dad for! It hardly seems worth it!

The payoff is great experiance..i.e. i know EVERYTHING about the car. I have put 100's of hours into the car..i know the engine inside out b/c my dad and i rebuilt it in our garage (w/ some more performance in mind : ) ). The body i took apart myself just to see wht was undernieth. I dunno like i said....it hardly seems worth it..but as i am nearing the completion of this car (about 1 month to go), which is 1 1/2 years behind schedule i can't wait to get BACK in the drivers seat.

1970 widebody car of my dreams
